Little River Labradors are owned and loved by Gregg and Deborah Tonkin, located in the hills of North Eastern Alabama. We are a breeder heavily involved in the show ring. It is our objective to continually improve the breed through selective choices of boys for our girls. No breeding is ever planned without the thoughts of keeping a puppy for ourselves. Our primary goals in breeding is to produce a dog with a calm, friendly, outgoing temperament, free of genetic problems, and using the AKC Labrador Standard as a blueprint. All of our adult Labs are OFA certified with their eyes examined yearly by a Board Certified Ophthalmologist. We are members of several Labrador Clubs, the Greater Atlanta Labrador Retriever Club, the Labrador Retriever Club of the Piedmont, and the Labrador Retriever Club Inc.

While we have had Labrador Retrievers since the mid 1970's, we only obtained our first "Show Lab" in 1994. Since then, our breeding program has produced eight Champions, six AKC, one Canadian, and one Mexican Champion including the 2002 Eukanuba Invitational winner, Ch Little River Ophir's Calvin. While we have been successful in the ring, we are the most proud of the multitude of family companions born in our living room carrying the name of "Little River". Sometimes our Labs are even known for their retrieving ability. We normally have two to three litters a year. All our puppies are sold on Limited AKC Registration and fully guaranteed for health and any genetic defect. Here at Little River we are limited to Blacks and Yellows, no Chocolates however within our Yellows we have a few Fox Red Labradors and do occasionally have fox red puppies.

Notice!! Three litter mate Champions!! Ch. Little River Ophir's Calvin, bred by us and owned by Michelle and Jose' Granda of Grandquest Labradors finished as the 14th top rated Labrador in the country in 2002. Calvin finished up the year going Best of Breed at the prestigious Eukanuba Invitational Championship Dog Show in Orlando Florida. Calvin is a litter brother to our Ch. Little River Prosperity Promise and Little River Pretentious Pearl. Of course his mom is Ch Little River Magic Moment, our "Ruthie". His litter brother Can Ch Little River Typhoon, owned by Sylvie Miron of Miron Labradors in Quebec, is a multi-class Speciality Winner, both in the US and Canada. The high point of his brief show career is at the Labrador Retriever Club of Quebec Specialty where he was Winners Dog and Best of Winners. He finished his championship the same week-end.We are very proud of both these brothers as well as their litter sister, Ch Little River Prosperity Promise.
